About Us

Mary and Scott Ballenger opened Sundaes at the Cottage in July, 2001, with the help of their children Krissy, Katie, and Joe. Since then, it has beome a Cascade hot spot where neighbors come together to relax, socialize, and enjoy a treat (or two).

The inspiration for Sundaes came from vacations on Mackinac Island, where cottage-style inns and quaint shops offering indulgent treats create a relaxing getaway. When the kids were young, the Ballengers escaped on the weekends to Lake Michigan in Montague. The family would frequently visit their favorite local ice cream shop.

At Sundaes, we want you to feel like you're on vacation, if only for a couple of hours - away from the daily grind, close to the water, and biting into your favorite treat. We've tried to create an inviting retreat through colorful flowers, café-style seating, and a friendly staff. And since Tassell Park is right across the street, you can sit by the river, nap on the grass, or even have a picnic and then head to Sundaes for dessert.

We pride ourselves on the quality and variety of our food. All of our waffle cones and brownies are hand-made at Sundaes, and there truly is something for everyone on our menu (even the dog!). We have low-carb, low-cal, lactose-free, and diabetic friendly options for those with special dietary needs in honor of Mary's mother Bernadine, who was diabetic and died of kidney failure in 2000.

We hope you'll visit and see for yourself why our customers love the Sundaes experience. Thank you to all of our dedicated customers who have supported us through the years - we wouldn't be here without you!
